Following a report of mines of this micro being found in Newport, I have now found them in central Cardiff. They can be a lot more subtle than the pictures on the ukleafminers website!
Here is a photo showing how tricky to spot they are:
From a distance all you can see is a feint dark grey line. Up close, you can then see the egg at the left end of the mine. I also found keys that just had eggs and no obvious mine at all. Unlike the miner on Field Maple, you really need to look closely at the keys!
Another few photos from this morning in Llanishen:
Here is the egg with no sign of the mine at all.
Then on the other side is the exit hole.
Finally, on the wing is the cocoon.

Belated news - Waved Black
I have just heard that the Perry's caught a Waved Black in Dinas Powys on 3rd August. This is only the second county record, and the specimen will be deposited in the Museum in due course.

47 species in the trap this morning, no great surprises apart from 2 Chalk Carpets, National b I think and one of Glamorgan's BAP species? Also the moth immediately below which I haven't been able to id. Any thoughts on that one welcomed...

Last night: Dark Sword-grass & Silver Y (3), along with a Straw U/w (3rd garden rec & first since Aug. 2001). At Whitchurch on 1st had a Lilac Beauty, first for that site. Good numbers of ermine moths, mostly Bird-cherry & Willow (rorrella). E. postvittana numbers raising, 7 last night.
My garden total now stands at 497, three more and I'm going to crack the Champagne! Any GMRG badges for the 500 club Dave?

Gorseinon
My first Pearly Underwing of year along with 9 Silver Ys and a couple of Dark Sword-grass, these being the only migrants. Resident interest was provided by my 3rd garden record of the Olive, this being the first here for 11 years! By comparison I have now recorded Double Kidney here 8 times, including 1 today. It must be a good year for Double Kidney as 5 of the 8 record have been in 2011.
Nantyffyllon actinic last night.
Garden dart.
Forgot my notebook, so a count was out. Interesting species were the first Lesser wax moth for the Llynfi valley, Twin spot carpet, Six striped rustic, Dark sword grass and Mirificarma mulinella.
