Chinese character. Orange footman. Eucosma campoliliana. 68 species in total with 11 Antler moth topping the count. Also - Devon carpet, Gold spot, Scalloped shell, Straw underwing, Mother of pearl, Evergestis pallidata and Parornix betulae.
Had another check in the books and it also seems a little too big for Orange, a feature Dave could not see from a photo. I had a couple of Dingy and Buff in the trap the same night and potted this one as it stood out. I will call it Buff to err on the safe side, as Orange would be new for the valley.
Paul, it seems late for Orange and costa seems a bit too straight. I wonder if this might be a very orange Dingy or Buff Footman?
ReplyDeleteBarry. I did run this photo past Dave as i wasn't certain myself.

ReplyDeleteI thought Buff had a more rounded costa than Orange, but I only has Waring & Townsend at hand. I'll take another look!
ReplyDeleteI think Orange would have a much more strongly curved outer costa - I suspect this is probably an orangey Buff Footman.
