Cameraria

Somewhat more mundane than Gypsy Moths I know, but as I was driving into Barry and back this afternoon (someone has to!) I noticed that nearly all of the Horse Chestnuts appear to be very much greener than in recent years.  I wondered if this is just a local phenomenon, or has something reduced the plague-like infestations of Cameraria ohridella elsewhere?

  1. I've the same around the Cynon Valley, too, Adam. I thought it might be down to the recent cold winters and especially the recent late, cold spring.

  2. They took a long time to emerge this spring, which has had an effect on the number of generations they can manage. It won't have a long term affect on the population unless we have a lot more harsh winters.
