Acleris logiana

The pale Acleris that Adam caught back at the end of July has now been dissected and is in fact Acleris logiana, the first confirmed record for the county. There is a record in the database accredited to Norton from Hallett's Leps of Glamorgan, but at that time Acleris logiana was restricted to Scotland so this record was rejected by the GMRG records committee (ie Jake, Barry & myself). The Adam's picture can be viewed here.

  1. Woo hoo - thanks Dave! Would be interesting to know if there are any other Welsh records for this species?

It's turning out to be a good day as I have also sold the house I've been renovating for the last 10 months!

  2. Looking at the UK map, the only Welsh record is Norton's 1921 record, which as Dave has stated was rejected during a review of VC41 moths by the GMRG 2004-05. Formally just a Scottish species this tortricoid is now established on the East Anglian coast and several sites inland. It is highly likely that Adam's moth is a migrant, and that the 1921 record could now be valid, as a singleton migrant, although we'll never know now. Well done Adam, probably the first confirmed Welsh record and another excellent addition to the Glamorgan list.

  3. This is indeed the first Welsh record. Interestingly a similar moth was caught in Gwent about a fortnight prior to your, but was not retained. So unless another comes out prior to publication, this will be the first (excluding Norton's of course!).
