Ni Moth

Today's Ni Moth at Roath. The 5th garden record, following on from 2 in 1996, 1 in 2003 & 1 in 2006, all very good migrant years in VC41. The constitutes the 22nd Glamorgan record for this species, first recorded in June 1931 in Roath, Cardiff (W. Edney Cox). My 8th Ni Moth in the county, also saw the 1992 at KNNR, 1996 at Whiteford & 2006 at Stefan's in Llanishen.

  1. Pristine specimen - locally bred I wonder?

  2. Reading various coastal websites (Portland, Dungeness etc) & Atropos arrivals there seems to a mini influx of Ni Moths along Southern Britain in August, so could be a genuine migrant. Overall a good year for this species in GB. As you say Ba, a real bright one.
