Gorseinon

Other than two new species for the garden, Evergestis pallidata and L-album Wainscot, the other 73 species (176 individuals) were all pretty much routine fare for this busy time of year, although always interesting to catch August and September Thorns in July! E. pallidata is significantly scarcer here in the west of the county, with records suggesting its distribution has crept westwards very slowly, this being only the 9th in Swansea (cf 145 Glamorgan records east of Swansea) since it was first recorded at Reynoldston by David Painter in 2003. L-album Wainscot on the other hand, since its appearance on the Gower cliffs in 2004, has rapidly consolidated its range along the coastal fringe of Glamorgan (though there is a glaring gap in the middle) with now 107 county records shown on my system. These two additions take the total for Lepidoptera recorded in our  0.05 ha of urban garden to 743. Additions are as rare as hen's teeth these days, so '2' nfg is quite an event!
