A total of 14 species in the trap last night, the highlights being:

A chocolate Tip,

A Lesser Swallow Prominent

Epermenia chaerophyllella

And a Sallow Kitten

Not in the trap, but flying around yesterday afternoon was a new species for my Llanishen Garden, Epermenia chaerophyllella:

Howardian LNR in Cardiff

I know one of the Trustees at the Howardian LNR in Cardiff and have offered to run a moth trap for an evening or two to add to their knowledge of the fauna of the site.

Is anyone interested in coming along? No dates fixed yet, I just want to gauge interest at this stage.

The broad plan would be to trap between dusk and about 11.30 to 12.00 pm depending on my commitments the next day!

First 'migrant' of the year at Llandaff North

A Diamond-back moth on our kitchen window last night...but could be of local origin I guess. Recent trap highlights here include Powdered Quaker and an early V-pug.

Kenfig.

Pyrausta Despicata, at least 50 of these freshly emerged in the Northern dunes today. Also one male Emperor moth flying around.

Kenfig Marshalling Yards

Last night Chris Manley and myself ran three traps at the back of the Kenfig Industrial Estate. We recorded 17 species, the best of which were Chamomile Shark and Northern Drab, the last species seemingly unrecorded in the county since 2003.

Moth

This moth was photographed by R. Smith [birds] when on hols in Lanzarote. He says it was about the size of a 50p. Any ideas?
