Belated report from yesterday morning’s trap-emptying session: 279 individuals of 80 species, interest provided by Diamond-back Moth (116), Cork Moth, Brindled Plume, Epinotia bilunana, Ringed China-mark, Lime Hawk-moth, Eyed Hawk-moth, Angle-barred Pug, Freyer's Pug, Orange Footman & Alder Moth.

Central Roath

Another new species for the garden, Blomer's Rivulet. Also my 4th Seraphim. Another Miller, first Small Dusty Wave [2] & D-b moths down to c50.

Some good stuff in the garden trap this morning:

Sloe Pug

Bactra furfurana

Cochylis nana

Sloe Pug is the third Cardiff record (Dave had one in Llanishen in 2006). Bactra furfurana hasn't been recorded east of Kenfig (6th VC record?). Cochylis nana has 10 previous VC41 records but mostly historical and none since 2003.

Other highlights among the 40 species recorded were Scorched Wing (new for site), Miller, Cypress Carpet. Diamond-backs down to 120.

Our garden last night in Bridgend

A warm night produced 152 moths of 33 species. The highlights for us were a lifer, our first ever Orange Footman (398th species for garden) and a  nice Alder moth (suffusa). We had 61 Diamond-backed moths - they seem to be everywhere right now. New for the year were Grey Tortrix (first since 2006), Notocelia cynosbatella (first since 2008), Codling moth, Grass Veneer, Eudonia lacustrata, Small Magpie, Figure of Eighty, Freyer's Pug, Green Pug, Yellow-barred Brindle, Willow Beauty, Mottled Beauty, Clouded Silver, 2 Elephant Hawkmoths, White Ermine and the ubiquitous Large Yellow Underwing. We also attracted a lovely species of Picture-winged Fly (Herina frondescentiae).

Creigiau Friday 03 June

In addition to the Endothenia nigricostana (apparently the first VC41 record for 20 years) which I found in the garden on Friday afternoon,

the Friday night box produce 40 moths of 20 species, including 3 new for the year - Bright-line Brown-eye, Clouded Silver & Red Twin-spot Carpet.

As an added bonus, one of my 'rescued' caterpillars emerged on Sunday morning - my first Buff Ermine of the year.

Finally picking up in Llandaff

A very warm evening, although the wind did pick up in the early hours and was quite blustery.

It was the best night of the year so far. I counted 127 Plutella xylostella, but countless more were pouring out of the trap as I removed the egg cartons.

Nothing really notable, 26 species and a couple new for the year being,  Scorched Wing and Pale Tussock. Also 3 more Rhyacionia pinivorana.

A rather large Mayfly - looks as if it was Ephemera danica and a Nicrophorus humator, with a bucket load of mites.

I'm surprised by the lack of Pugs so far this year.

Looking forward to more migrants.

Central Roath

George I gave up counting at 150 - have entered that count on MM (best ever no. in garden). If we are getting those numbers here in VC41 - how many are in GB??

I also had 2 Millers (4th garden rec.), Mullein, Yellow-barred brindle & a new species for the site - Alder Moth. Also good numbers of Willow Beauty & C.M. Carpet recently.
