Senghenydd

This Cherry-bark Moth was on kitchen wall this morning. It probably escaped when I was emptying Thursday night's trap.

What's that coming over the egg-box, is it a......
Not as good as previous night's trap in species/numbers however an Elephant hawk was new for 2011 and a new species for the site: European Corn Borer.

Rhoose Point

Here are a few I am having some trouble identifying. As usual, if anyone can help I would be very grateful!

The second to last may be an Epinotia, Grapholita or similar, but I can't see any that have the silver fringe on the trailing edge of the forewing. The last one looks very much like a Crambid to me, but I can't spot any that have the faint cross lines on the forewing... It's too samll to be a C. perlella, with a wingspan of approx 20mm.

Thanks! Adam

33 species last night including my first Eyed Hawkmoth - possibly a new species for ST19? Also 3rd record for Aber Valley of Small Elephant Hawkmoth.

I'm reasonably confident this is Epiblema rosaecolana but would appreciate confirmation?

Best night's catch of 2011 so far, 26 spp. inc Cyclamen Tortrix (3rd rec.), Lychnis, Shears, Small Dusty Wave & Heart & Club [2].

Penmoelallt Woodland - Bat & Moth weekend

The Merthyr Nats are running a bat walk and moth evening on 24th/25 June at Penmoelallt Woodland, and have asked me to spread the news, so here it is:

It would be good if someone could attend the Saturday must to keep an eye on things - I don't know whether I can make it as yet.
