Highlight Park, Barry, 27th July

Wasn't sure if there would be much in the trap with the heavy rain and wind although there were plenty of calm periods overnight. Ended up with 79 moths of 39 species - much better than recent catches thanks to the absence of the thieving Moon!

Highlights were Toadflax Brocade, any other records of this recently outside of Cardiff?

And another Jersey Tiger - tally of these now four in total for the garden. After the first pale type trapped last week the remaining ones have had the more traditional red hindwings.

Creigiau - 21 July

The final tally for the weekend moth box was 46 species ... which included my first ever Bulrush Wainscot (assuming my ID is correct)

I also saw my first Euzophora pinguis since July 2016 and also had first 2018 visits from Dun-bar and (a very tatty) Dark/Grey Dagger agg.

Jersey Tiger, Highlight Park Barry

A Jersey Tiger was in the trap this morning, appearing to be towards the f. lutescens end of the spectrum:

Tried to get a better picture but it fluttered!

Anacampsis populella query

Box out last night for GMS and picked up 50+ species in/around the trap. This one was on a window frame near the box and, unfortunately, flew off immediately after I grabbed this image.

Never seen one before, and there don't appear to be that many local records on Aderyn, but could this be Anacampsis populella?

Highlight Park Lunar-spotted Pinion / Micro help

Some new moths for us - we had two Lunar-spotted Pinion on separate nights over the weekend. There are a few Elm trees behind the back fence so suspect that'll be where they originate from.

Then I plucked this teeny tiny tortrix off the trap last night. Any help with ID appreciated, is it a Pammene sp.?

Bridgend Last night (MV)

A small catch of 46 moths of 27 species. The highlight was a Monochroa cytisella a garden first and lifer for us. Together with Agriphila straminella, this has already made it our best ever year for micros with 67 species to date. Other macros new for the year were Dusky Thorn, Pale Prominent, Copper Underwing, Dun-bar and Marbled White Spot (3rd record). Year list up to 187 species.
