Rhoose Point

A very good catch here last night considering the reports from Dave and Mark!  38 species identified, and 2 or 3 that I need to look at more closely.

New for the garden record:
  • Scorched Wing
  • Coleophora mayrella
New for the year:
  • Barred Yellow
  • Grey/Light Grey Tortrix
  • Bee Moth
  • Crambus perlella
  • Argyresthia cupressella
  • The Fern
  • Epiblema uddmanniana
  • Shoulder-striped Wainscot
  • Cochylis molliculana
  • Dark Arches
  • Garden Pebble
 And finally migrants:
  • 2x Silver Y
  • 1 x Diamond-back
On a different topic entirely, does anyone know anything about control of invasive Cotoneaster species?  I've spotted quite a bit of it locally, and was wondering if the Council has any responsibility for sorting it out.  It's at the point where it could be dealt with efficiently, but if is left for many more years then it will just become a much bigger problem...

  1. I don't think the council has any responsibility to control it, as such, but it may have a policy to do so. I'd contact VoG CBC (I assume that's yours) to find out, report the problem and perhaps nag them into taking some action.

  2. You are right Mark, it is the VoG Council. I will raise it through the Residents association which might put a bit of extra pressure on them. Thanks for the advice. A stitch in time as they say...

  3. No problem. I'm assuming the offending Cotoneasters are on council owned or managed land. If not, that introduces a whole set of complications. Good luck!
