Mothing at Pwll Waun Cynon Tonight

I am aiming to moth trap at Pwll Waun Cynon nature reserve tonight, as it is forecast to remain dry and relatively mild. I will be there from eight and anyone is welcome to turn up.

  1. Hope it went well - it was clear and a bit chilly down here in Cardiff, with only 16 species in the garden trap for GMS.

  2. It went fairly well, thanks George. I trapped until two, by which time it was still a reasonable 11.50 degrees. I had 23 species, the highlights being Centre-barred Sallow, my first Autumnal Rustics, Agriphila latistria and my only Blood-vein of the year; which is going some.
The main aim of the session was to get some moths to show the visitors attending the 'Walk with Mary Gillam' event, which took place there today and in that respect it was a complete success.
As for the GMS catch, I had 13 species.

  3. Pretty much the same here in Creigiau - the temperature bottomed out at 11.3C and I ended up with 20 species. Centre-barred Sallow (4) paid their first visit of the year.
