Found this superb Dotted Chestnut in the trap last night. To the best of my knowledge this is the eigth county record, the last being in 2003 ??
Also Brindled Beauty (2), Mottled Grey (2), Early Grey, Small Quaker, Common Quaker (21), Twin-spotted Quaker, Clouded Drab, Hebrew Character (3) and Chestnut.
Very nice Tony. I make it the sixth county record, and the third in modern times. And yes, the last was in 2003. Good Stuff.
ReplyDeleteNot seen this species in Glamorgan, I'd like to pick one from our garden moth trap one day!
ReplyDeleteYou lucky thing - I haven't seen one for about 10 years. Nice photo too.
ReplyDeleteEasily my best macro record in nearly 4 years of mothing. Seems like suitable habitat for the species next to my garden, so guess I'm in with a shout of finding more. Won't be holding my breath though...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments.
Well done Tony, welcome to the Dotted Chestnut club for VC41. Good to get the photo too, the first for this species in Glamorgan.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that Jake, it feels great to be a member of such an exclusive club. Where & when did you trap your Dotted Chestnut?
ReplyDelete31/03/2002 north Cardiff nr. Castell Coch - Mike & myself had a hunch that we could possibly find them here and at Llanbethery in the Vale 27/03/2003, where they were a complete surprise.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought they were a possibility here, and for some uncanny reason, have really fancied my chances of finding one this last week or so. I'll definitely be putting the trap out every night from March 27th to the 31st next year. :-0
