Creigiau last night

hi

I'm new to the Group and fairly new to the world of invertebrates, having started trapping moths in my garden in Creigiau just over a year ago.

Reasonable selection of moths so far this month, with the highlights being Garden pebble, Sharp-angled Peacock and Rusty-dot Pearl all of which are new to me. However, identification of this little beast is eluding me. There were two in the trap last night - could they possibly be Acrobasis advenella? I'm not convinced but it's the best I've found so far. The grid is 2mm.

Any help appreciated.

Howard

  1. Hi Howard,

Welcome to the group! I'm sure you'll get plenty of nice moths in Creigiau.

Yes that's Acrobasis (formerly Trachycera) advenella.

  3. Many thanks to you both. It was nice to have a micro with some detail and colour - most of mine are faded and drab!

The garden isn't that big but attracts a manageable number of moths. Last yea,r with a 15w actinic, I logged approx 230 in the garden and this year I am running a 40w actinic and am already approaching the 200 mark (but that includes butterflies).
