Creigiau

The box was out on Friday and Tuesday nights, and although quite warm at the start of the night the temperature droppped overnight to 10C on both occasions.

On Friday I had 64 moths of 34 species. Highlights were the first appearances of the year for Clouded Magpie, Flounced Rustic, Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing and Lozotaeniodes formosanus.

Tuesday night attracted 46 moths of 28 species, with Dun-bar and Six-striped Rustic making their first visit of the year and the second ever appearance of Aspilapteryx tringipennella. The box also contained 5 Common Wasps.

  1. Some nice pics there Howard. Picture 2 looks like Cabbage to me, with the white outline to the kidney mark, but would also be larger than Flounced Rustic.

    1. Thanks Chris.

You are, of course, correct about the Cabbage Moth. Coincidentally, I made a similar mistake on 13 August last year - and Barry's comment about being 'Confused by a Cabbage' is still occasionally used by the family!
