Chocolate-tip last night in Bridgend

A warmer night last night saw about 120 moths of 38 species. Highlight was Chocolate-tip, a new moth for us (300th Glamorgan macro) (386th moth for garden). A bumper crop of micros has boosted us to our best ever year already (53 species). New for the year last night were Ypsolopha scabrela, Mompha propinquella, Acleris forsskaleana, Garden Pebble, Pyrausta aurata, Phycitodes sp and unidentified sp (see below), August Thorn, Lesser Yellow Underwing, Least Yellow Underwing and Square-spot Rustic. Year list now 161.
Gatekeeper and Holly Blue enlivened the morning in the garden - we don't get too many of these butterflies where we are.
Chocolate-tip
Phycitodes sp - any ideas?
Working on identifying this tiny micro

  1. The tiny micro in bottom pic seems quite distinctive (about 3 to mm long), but I just can't pin the id for it. I've tried all the resources we have here, Goater and Parsons & Stirling to no avail. Help!

  3. Hi Sid, that's funny as I had one at rest - easy to identify, but just could not identify this one with its wings spread!! Another one to chalk up to experience! Still wearing L plates after 12 years mothing!!

  4. Your 'Phycitodes' is Blastobasis adustella.

  5. Thanks Dave. I've now got to eat humble pie as Emma said she though it was Blasto adustella!
