Alun Valley last night

We had 10 traps running in the Alun Valley last night and some excellent moths to show for it. I've no idea what the final species total will be, but there were around 95 species between my two traps (MV and 15W actinic). There were some cracking micro-moth records, the best being Acompsia schmidtiellus - the only previous county record dating from 1980. I'm hoping Chris will be able to post a pic of this one.

Other good micro records included Ancylis comptana (nearly all the county records are from the nearby Ogmore and Old Castle Downs), Aethes rubigana, Eudonia delunella, Apomyelois bistriatella, Agrolamprotes micella, Cydia fagiglandana, Yponomeuta plumbella and Ypsolopha sequella. There were some good macro-moths too: Beautiful Carpet (plenty of these), Brown Scallop, Dark Umber, Leopard, Short-cloaked Moth and Blomer's Rivulet.

Paul had the best migrant - a Small Mottled Willow. There were also a few Silver Y, Diamond-backs and Rush Veneers.

Finally, I wondered if this might be Scoparia ancipitella?

Thanks to everyone who came along - a memorable evening.

George
